My Sister, the Uber Blue
I got a phone call from my older sister the other day on her way home from work. She’s speeding because she’s going to be late getting home and getting the kids to cheer and football practice. While speeding home she tells me the latest problems she’s having with my niece.
I hear her shout at a driver for cutting her off. She continues on about her daughter, in- between a one sided conversation with another driver, tells me then to hang on as she quickly changes lanes to get off at the right exit.
Next she’s talking to the red light, willing it to change with a anxious sound in her voice.
I hear her pull into the drive, tires make a distinctive moan when turned a sharp way; and my sister gets out of the car and goes into the house. I marvel that every other sentence is either directed at me or one of the kids.
“Put your shoes away!”
“This is so frustrating”
“Did you do your homework? Put your backpack in your room!”
“The kitchen is a mess! They didn’t clean up after themselves!”
“Get dressed for practice!”
We must have moved into the laundry area next because I hear lots of clattering while she moves laundry from the washer to the dryer. In the back ground her kids are yelling about not finding something. She shouts,
“Its in your room!”
Finally, she’s talking to me again.
She got a call from the teacher about my niece talking too much in class, the dogs are barking as she’s letting them out to do their business.
I start to offer some advice about structure, routine, accountability while I hear water running. She’s loading the dishwasher.
“Put your shoes on we are leaving!”
I try again to offer solutions as I hear car doors shut and they are on there way to practice.
I realized my sister hasn’t heard a word of what I’m saying to her. Not only is she doing a million things at once, my input fell on deaf ears!
It occurs to me I’m talking to an extremely hammered Blue and I’m talking to her like a Green personality type.
She doesn’t care about numbers or charts or statistics. Those things aren’t fun. Network Marketing is a relationship business.
