Life Is not the amount of breaths you take, it’s the
moments in your life that take your breath away.
Mental Cleanse Chapter 2.
#1. Don Standard.
THE STARTING POINT OF ALL ACHIEVEMENT
The First Step toward Riches
Achievement, no matter what may be its nature,
or its purpose, must begin with an intense,
BURNING DESIRE for something definite.
A BURNING DESIRE TO BE, AND TO DO is the
starting point from which the dreamer must take off.
The method by which DESIRE for riches can be
transmuted into its financial equivalent, consists
of six definite, practical steps:
(short version)
1. Know the exact amount of money you desire.
2. Determine exactly what you intend to give in
return.
3. Establish a definite date when you intend to
possess the money you desire.
4. Create a definite plan for carrying out your
desire and begin at once.
5. Write a statement that clearly describes all
of the above.
6. Read the written statement daily.
To understand and do the above may seem easy
for us in advance. The secret lies in…………….
Never say things like, “I will work at this for a few
months, and if I get no encouragement, I will quit
and do something else.”
Be willing to do what ever it takes for as long as
it takes.
There is no plan of retreat. Only a plan to move
forward until.
Note how the author shows that Barnes succeeded
because he chose a definite goal, placed all his
energy, all his will power, all his effort, everything
back of that goal. He did not become the partner
of Edison the day he arrived.
He was content to start in the most menial work,
as long as it provided an opportunity to take even
one step toward his cherished goal.
Thank you,
Don Standard

I have learned here that I must have such a burning
desire that I am willing to do anything it takes to be
successful. even beginning at the bottom of the pile.
Just have the faith and belief that I will succeed no
matter what comes in the way! Keeping my ultimate goal
in the forefront of my mind and not letting anyone
block the way with negativity.
I must be willing to realize that even if there is a
failure that gets in the way not to become discouraged
Just Keep my burning desire and faith and belief that
I will succeed no matter what comes my way.
Just keep the negative things out of my mind and only
my goal there!
The poem was very good it teaches us to never be
satisfied with just a meager wage. Set our goals for
the highest goal what ever that may become Never
settle for less.
Be confidant that I am qualified to do it and earn it
no matter what obstacles get in the way. Thank you
Michael for giving us the opportunity to be a part of
this great system. I am so grateful for all you do.

My thoughts on Chapter 2
Chapter 2 deals with desire and definiteness of
purpose. Reading this chapter again I realize that
when I simply wanted something or would wish
for it,that this was not being translated into a
burning desire, I know that although I wanted
success I did not want it enough it for it to be-
come my burning desire.
This explains why most people do not receive
the gift of daily miracles that the universe can
easily provide. However in order to be able to
receive these daily miracles one has to be
totally committed, not half way, just wanting
to obtain the object of your desire is insufficient.
I have had the wish or the hope for success but
never the all consuming passion to succeed .
This is why it has always been easier to quit
rather than work through the obstacles that
rose up to stop me.
I had never taken the time to stop negative
chatter and to learn from myself what my true
desire was and why I really wanted this.
Now that I have been doing the mental cleanse
for 3 months I know fully understand my why
and my hope has become my burning desire.
I do not let anything stop or hinder me , my
burning desire has become a passion in my
life and I am succeeding where I never did
before. Once this happened the path to my
success seemed to just open up in front of me.
I often wondered why I was not getting what I
wanted, As I started and stopped several efforts
at trying to obtain my desire I never realized I
was “trying” not doing, not truly believing and
not truly committed.
My desire was a want, perhaps a hope but I
was definitely not possessed of a burning
desire. I now know that should I falter in my
self talk, falter in my persistence then I will
be telling the universe that I am not truly
committed, that I am still only in the wanting
it stage not the doing it state of mind.
I am fully committed to my success and the
success of everyone that I come in contact
with on a daily basis. I know that I have to
live my commitment and desire every day.
This quote (below) now has meaning and
understanding behind it.
I know that whatever I desire is within my own
ability to achieve because I believe in myself.
“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy,
the chance to draw back. Concerning all
acts of initiative (and creation), there is one
elementary truth, the ignorance of which
kills countless ideas and splendid plans:
that the moment one definitely commits one
self, then Providence moves too.
All sorts of things occur to help one that
would never otherwise have occurred. A
whole stream of events issues from the
decision, raising in one’s favor all manner
of unforeseen incidents and meetings and
material assistance, which no man could
have dreamed would have come his way.
Whatever you can do, or dream you can do,
begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and
magic in it. Begin it now.

The Power of having a Burning Desire. The
Burning Desire is powerful. It can not just
be a wish. It can not be just a hope.It must
be something that I must be completely
obsessed with.
Your being must be saturated with the
Burning Desire. Hill speaks of burning our
bridges behind us. He wants us to under
stand that we MUST Push forward to our
desire that we can not give ourselves a
way out, or an excuse.
I have heard many parents tell their children
that they should study in another area than
their dreams so they have a back up plan.
Parents tell their children this out of fear.
They don’t want to see their children fail.
Mr. Hill tells us that when we burn our
bridges we Will succeed because we
MUST succeed, there are no other options
if we burn our bridges behind us.
I must develop such a hunger for my desired
thing that nothing will stop me. There is only
one possible out come and that is success.
No one’s snooty remarks, snears or funny
looks can deter me from my path. You must
hang on to that Thought and follow it where
it takes you until you reach it.
For Michael, I have a story. This chapter
reminds me of a children’s story about a
donkey that is taught to pull a cart by
following his favorite treat, a carrot. A little
girl wants her pet donkey to pull her around
in the cart. The donkey is afraid of the cart.
The little girl decides to show him it is nothing
to fear. She starts off by giving him a carrot
as a treat. He then learns that every time
she comes to visit she will have a carrot for
him. She then starts to walk with a carrot
behind her so that he learns to follow her
with the carrot.
One day she had the cart hooked up to him
again. She sat in the cart and with a long
stick with a carrot tied on the end of a string,
much like a fishing line and bait on the end.
She would hold the stick so that the carrot
was in front of the donkey’s nose. He very
quickly forgot about what was behind him
and started to follow the carrot.
We must be the donkey. To focus on the
one thing we desire and move towards it,
forgetting all the things that are obstacles
and our fears because once we focus on
the thing we desire most, we forget every
thing else that doesn’t matter.
Thank you Henrietta

Chapter 2
Until i began reading this book i can only
remember having one burning desire in my
lifetime so far. That happened 35 years ago
and we are still in love!
Don’t get me wrong. I have had desires for
other things but evidently not a burning
desire. Because i never achieved any of
them.
Where does this burning desire come from?
Are you born with it. Does this burning desire
lay dormant in your sub-conscious partner?
At what stage in your life Mr. Dlouhy did you
decide your purpose in life was to help others
become successful? What was the trigger?
The annals of history are filled with the names
of men and women who’s thoughts, hunches,
notions, and the dreams they had became
their definite purpose in life.
Their burning desire. What was the catalyst?
God? Was there something spiritual going on
here. I for one thinks so. Why?
Let me give a short history lesson on me.In my
younger years i could not decide what i wanted
to be when i grew up. Dig this. I got out of the
military in 1967. The first tax year i had 10 W-2
to file. See what i mean.
I never had a purpose in life. I got married , had
children,brought home a pay check,took the
two week vacation lived the American dream.
Was that all the good Lord wanted me to do?
I never gave much thought to it,until now. In
chapter1 home work assignment i wrote about
this idea had for a song.
I had this idea rolling around in my head for
a long time. I had always wanted to be involved
in music in someway. Well i gave my life back
to Jesus Christ, cause i aint done such a good
job of it lately, and i asked him,”
What was my true purpose in life?” Show me
what you want me to do. Twenty four hours
later the song was on paper, and a idea for
another was in my head.
No one can tell me that the good Lord did not
have a hand in on this. I now no what its like
to have a burning desire, coupled with a
definite purpose feels like. Oh! by the way
the first song is a gospel song

DESIRE. WOW, such a loaded word!
Napoleon Hill makes reference to when Barnes
appeared before Edison and put him on notice
that he was going to be his business partner.
Well, where did this begin? It HAD to begin
with VISUALIZATION. Desire and VISUALIZATION. I
believe that the hardest part of visualization of
Desire is to feel the EMOTION with it!
When we cannot feel the EMOTION, what is
happening is that it is colliding with a DEEPER
belief! The BELIEF of NON DESERVING!
Or even, the BELIEF of rich people being snobs
and not wanting to be one too and be judged
like we do or did!
Or how about God doesn’t want us to focus on
money! And that the poor will inherit the world?
Those were the three that were colliding for me
for a LONG time, 7 or 8 MONTHS! I take inventory
now and have discovered that the snobby rich,
were the snobby middle to upper class who
must have felt inferior about not having money
in the FIRST PLACE!
The second one — that God doesn’t want money
to be the leading obsession of our mind’s was
dispelled with the REALIZATION that God doesn’t
want us Struggling.
Otherwise how can we make a difference in other
people’s lives? Money HAS to be the means to an
end. And when it is, it is GOOD.
Now to the third. I have discovered when I take
inventory, that there STILL exists on some small
level the belief that I don’t DESERVE!.
Thank you Mom and Dad!! Oh I deserve MOMENTS,
and I ACHIEVE short term goals I set.But the BIG
GOAL?
VISION, EMOTION, and DESIRE. They MUST come
with EMOTION. I have found that I have emotion
sometimes, and sometimes I cannot FEEL it. I
have to assume that that is the NON DESERVING
I’ve re discovered.
DESIRE MUST come with the visualization of already
HAVING it! If this is difficult, please take
inventory of your hidden BELIEFS about yourself.
Now back to network marketing.
How does this all apply? Well, first of all, when
Vision and Desire are present, we become PROUD
Network Marketers. SO proud that people feel this
and come to RESPECT us.
When people discriminate, one MUST NOT QUIT!.
Hill mentions when Barnes endured five years with
out a sign of his goal, but still bided his time
while doing menial job in Edison’s company.
Many many network marketers Quit within WEEKS
or MONTHS of joining a company! They don’t
ENDURE! This is where a WHY is so important.
Barnes’ WHY was to go into business with Thomas
Edison! And he ACHIEVED it because of his DESIRE!
One must WANT! Feel the COURAGE to want. To
quote Napoleon Hill “If the thing you wish to do
is RIGHT and you BELIEVE in it, go ahead and DO IT.
He mentions to put that dream across and never
mind what THEY say. How do I see this in action?
The way I did it. I stated my intent to the founders
of my company, my UP-LINE SPONSOR and my SIDELINE
leaders And guess what? It WORKS!
I like the line “The world is filled with an abundance
of OPPORTUNITY! Dreamers of the past never knew,
but I do. And guess what YOU DO TOO, or you
wouldn’t be on this call!
