Are You Aware?
The last couple of times I went with my daughter to the orthodontist using the expressway I missed my turn off. My daughter begins to yell, “turn, turn, turn,” as I pass my exit, the GPS speaks up saying, “remain on the current route, followed by a remain on the current route,” then, “recalculating route,” and I feel like I’ve never been in this area before! There’s major construction in this heavily used clover of ramps and roads, redirecting traffic every which way. Heavy snow and winds make the temporary signs I use faithfully invisible.
Today my daughter is going to drive my SUV to avoid any confusion. She drives a Honda Accord and is not at all familiar with my SUV. As we take off, I bite my tongue of any criticisms or advice I want to offer and let her drive. I do offer up a prayer to keep her and I safe, and to get us to our destination in one piece. With the confidence of youth, she weaves her way through semi-trailers and slush, occasionally sounding like her father when he drives…I try to relax and not look at how close the concrete construction barriers are to my car door. She exits at the correct construction ramp, expertly, and I can finally smile. We are going to be on time and in one piece.
The rest of the route takes us on back roads, avoiding the heavy city traffic. Since I’m relieved, I mean, relaxed, I think nothing of the snow and ice on the roadway, my daughter has enough experience to handle that. Suddenly she’s exclaiming louder and louder, “I can’t stop, I can’t stop, I CAN’T STOP,” and we’re sliding right through a red stoplight. A large SUV executes a left turn in front of us and clears the intersection without mishap. I look to the right to see if any cars had yet to accelerate and started calmly waving as we slid past them. I’m not sure if I was trying to get their attention to the fact that we weren’t stopping or to say thank you for not crashing into us.
My main concern was to settle my driver down. I calmly told her about anti-lock breaks and gently easing down on the break versus slamming in panic. I told her we were all right, nothing happened and it was a good lesson to remember in the future. It wasn’t until later while sitting in the waiting room that I became aware of prayers answered.
I thought and wondered about that. I expected to arrive safely to our destination. I wasn’t questioning as I said a prayer rather reinforcing my faith in what I wanted. I was in awe recounting all the prayers that have been answered in my life. Not just the subconscious ones, keep my family safe, make the money stretch, feed us, clothe us, house us, but the conscious as well.
I know I wasn’t “aware” entering my first network marketing business. I knew this was something I wanted to do, but wasn’t aware I lacked the education and training necessary to arrive safely in a legitimate business I could duplicate. I offered up a vague prayer, again, unaware of what I needed to ask to be successful.
Armed now with earnest intent and unwavering determination, I’ve cloaked myself in awareness. My prayer? Help Me Get This Right! This time I expected to find the truth, find the knowledge I lacked, and a mentor who would help me achieve my desires, and you know what? I did.
